SEMA Preview: New Toyota Yaris Suits Up for Club Racing

The annual aftermarket extravaganza that is known as the SEMA Show will host the debut of Toyota Yaris B-Spec Club Racer that will compete in the SCCA B-spec class race category next year with Action Sports Star and BMX legend Jamie Bestwick behind the wheel. Toyota said that Bestwick will try to qualify for and compete in the 2012 SCCA National Championship Runoffs, held at the Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wiscosnin.
Built by SportsCar Magazine, Toyota's new racer is based on the all-new, second generation 2012 Yaris hatchback and features a special livery that pays homage to the Japanese firm's 1998 LeMans pole-winning GT-One racecar.
The three-door hatch has been stripped down and fitted with a roll cage as well as race-spec steering wheel and bucket seat for the driver. Other changes include performance upgrades to the chassis and engine while the car rides on P205/50ZR15 racing tires.

Alfa Romeo SZ with 22,400 miles goes Under the Hammer

The Alfa Romeo 75 is remembered as the last rear-wheel drive sedan to be produced by the Milanese brand. Yet, its claim to glory is much bigger than that as the 75 underpinned one the most bizarre Alfa Romeos to date: the SZ. Initially presented as a Zagato concept at the 1987 Geneva Motor Show, the ES30 (Experimental Sports 3.0-liter), as was its internal designation, debuted in production form at the same show two years later as the SZ, which stands for Sports Zagato.
And it caused quite a commotion, thanks to its angular styling and angry looks. Some 25 years later, the SZ's exterior styling is still divisive, but nevertheless, it does stand out from the crowd…
It was available in one trim level in a red color with a dark-grey roof and tan leather interior – save for one example finished in black that was built exclusively for Andrea Zagato himself.
Hiding under its bonnet is a 3.0-liter, 210HP V6 that transfers power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. According to Alfa, the SZ accelerated from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 6.9 seconds, reached a top speed of 153 mph (246 km/h) and recorded a 1.01 g lateral acceleration figure on the skidpad - quite impressive figures at the time.
In 1992, Alfa introduced an open-top variant named the RZ, which remained in production until 1993 when both models were axed after approximately 1,000 units were built.
One low-mileage example of the SZ coupe was sold on Wednesday, October 26, by RM Auctions in London for £20,720 (US$33,413). It's a 1990 model first registered in 1996 with only three previous owners, the second one being a Middle Eastern man who kept it in Knightsbridge, England from 1998 until 2007.
The next owner covered a mere 4,000 miles with the odometer now reading just 22,400 miles (36,020 km). Prior to its sale, the SZ was restored to restored to as-new with all mechanical work done by WAD Wolverhampton.

Fiat Freemont

The Fiat Freemont is the first Fiat vehicle to be produced in partnership with the Chrysler Group. Its very name evokes a sense of freedom, and the feeling that this vehicle can face up to any situation that every day life might bring. The Fiat Freemont has been designed to meet the diverse needs of families and clients seeking a spacious, comfortable and versatile vehicle to cater to the frenetic pace of everyday life. Further, to transport them safely and comfortably during their weekend leisure time. This vehicle combines flexibility and practicality with its own distinctive and original style. Its dimensions (489 cm in length, 188 cm wide and 169 cm high) ensure optimum internal space, thanks to the generous wheelbase of 289 cm.
In short, the Fiat Freemont is "All the car you want": this is the claim of the advertising campaign which succinctly sums up the vehicle's multi-faceted soul, equipped with everything you need to go where you want, with whoever you want, no compromises required.
Its characteristic design includes a strong and muscular front end and a rear which is distinguished by innovative LED tail lights. The interiors are modern with soft touch materials. Features include a wrap-around dashboard with chrome elements, a brand-new instrument panel, a striking center console and an innovative infotainment system with a 4.3" colour touch-screen. Several vehicle functions can be controlled with just a light touch on the screen, including the temperature settings for the three climate-controlled areas and stereo system adjustment. The system offers unrivalled technology, with its Radio/CD/MP3, USB port, AUX socket and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Fiat Freemont guarantees maximum space, comfort and versatility thanks to its 7 seats fitted as standard, with a genuine, spacious third row which is easily accessible because the rear doors open to 90°, and the vehicle is equipped with a simple and easily operated seat slide system. The seats of the third row can be folded down with one simple movement to disappear completely as a load floor, leaving the car with a 5 seat configuration and creating a flat and even load platform. The second row and the front passenger power seat can also be folded down completely, allowing 32 different seating configurations. The second row is mounted slightly higher than the first, and the third slightly higher again, ensuring maximum visibility and comfort for all occupants. The second row is also fitted with an available innovative child booster system to make sure that children on board are seated correctly, optimising the seatbelt geometry and guaranteeing greater protection, practicality and comfort. This feature, which makes the Freemont "perfect for families", allows you to raise the seats by up to 102 mm.
On-board comfort is also ensured by the high driving position and the spacious and ergonomic seats, a host of storage compartments, a generous luggage area with two compartments and a flat load platform for an overall capacity of up to 1461 litres (equivalent to more than 10 suitcases). There are over 20 storage compartments, offering significant additional capacity, equal to the size of a city-car boot. The front armrest, for example, is very deep and guarantees maximum capacity. It also houses a USB port, an AUX-in socket (which may also be used for an iPod) and a 12 volt power socket. This means you can listen to music or recharge portable devices whilst ensuring they are concealed when you get out of the car. The passenger seat contains a convenient and easily accessible compartment under its cushion, while the floor in the second row contains two spacious compartments under the mats.
The Fiat Freemont is powered by state-of-the-art 2.0L MultiJet 2 engines, with variable geometry, available in 140 HP or 170 HP options, with a manual gearbox and front wheel drive. The Freemont will also soon become available in all wheel drive versions with 170 HP 2.0L MultiJet 2 and 276 HP 3.6L petrol V6 engines, both with automatic gearboxes, to ensure driving comfort and safety at the same time. With the exception of the powerful 3.6 litre unit from the Chrysler Group Pentastar family and its automatic gearbox, all power units are produced and developed by Fiat Powertrain.
The diesel engines have been designed to offer the optimum balance of performance, driving pleasure and fuel consumption. The vehicle's drivability is guaranteed by a maximum torque value (350 Nm) which is reached at 1750 rpm and constant up to 2500 for the 170 HP version (up to 2000 rpm for the 140 HP version). For the normal usage range (from starting the engine up to 4000 rpm), the torque never falls below 300 Nm, avoiding uncomfortable "downshifts" and enhancing driving pleasure. This makes the engine very flexible, with optimum acceleration from 0-100 km/h and optimum maximum speeds: 11 seconds and 195 km/h for the 170 HP model, 12.3 seconds and 180 km/h for the 140 HP model. All of this combined makes the Fiat Freemont a dynamic and safe drive.

To make it easier for the client to choose and purchase their vehicle, in Italy, the Freemont range will be launched with a simple choice of two trim levels, the Fiat Freemont and the Urban, each of which meets specific needs, and two types of diesel 2.0L MultiJet 2 16v engines, a 140 HP and a 170 HP version, to satisfy different performance requirements.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Having made its world preview at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show, the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta makes its debut and, from May 2010, will be marketed progressively on all the major markets, thus relaunching the brand in one of the most important segments in Europe.
In Alfa Romeo's Centenary year, the name Giulietta is a tribute to an automobile and an Alfa Romeo legend. In the Fifties, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta caught the imagination of car enthusiasts throughout the world, making the dream of owning an Alfa Romeo and enjoying its high level of comfort and technical excellence accessible for the first time.

Now the Alfa Romeo Style Centre has produced a new Alfa Romeo Giulietta, a five-door hatchback with an evident Alfa Romeo appearance and capable of expressing both great agility on the most deman
ding routes and providing comfort on everyday journeys. This is due to the new Compact platform which, thanks to the sophisticated technical solutions employed for the suspension, the dual pinion active steering, the sophisticated materials used and the manufacturing technologies implemented, allows the Alfa Romeo Giulietta to achieve exceptionally high standards both in terms of on-board comfort as well as its dynamic and safety features (active and passive).
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta introduces an entirely new platform - called Compact - designed to satisfy the most demanding customers in terms of road-holding, agility and safety. It ensures both exceptional dynamic performance and high comfort levels, thanks to the refined technical solutions employed for the suspension, a new-generation steering system, a light and rigid structure created from materials such as aluminium and high-strength steels, and avant-garde manufacturing techniques.
